Excalibur Micro Suppressor Review

This is a review of the Excalibur Micro Suppressor CrossBow.

For some people, the entrance to archery from firearms is steep.  The crossbow is a great transitional weapon that is more than sufficient on its own.

The Excalibur Micro Suppressor offers a complete crossbow package right out of the box that will fully equip the shooter.

This complete recurve crossbow package is a quiet crossbow making it ideal for hunters and target shooters alike.

Over the course of this recurve crossbow review, you will come to see why the Excalibur Micro Suppressor is a great choice for a crossbow package.

Excalibur Micro Suppressor Crossbow Pros and Cons

  • Pre Installed sound-deadening: The bow comes with a sound deadening system to make for a quieter shooting experience. This is very beneficial if you plan on using the crossbow for hunting applications.
  • Assembly hardware and tools included in the box
  • Excalibur Tact Zone illuminated scope will give plenty of magnification in a secure setup
  • Rope cocking aid included to make cocking the crossbow easy
  • Detachable quiver: The bows include a three arrow quiver which allows you to carry your arrows on the bow. It includes 3 quill arrows with 150 grain field points. These are perfect for target practice.
  • Setup for this crossbow can be a bit longer than other crossbows in this category. That being said, the setup itself is not difficult and is clearly laid out.
  • The bow might be a bit much as it relates to poundage for recreational shooting. However, it is perfect for hunting applications.

Who Should Buy The Excalibur Micro Suppressor Crossbow?

The Excalibur Micro Suppressor is ideal as a hunting crossbow if your state allows the use of crossbows for hunting purposes.  It is also a very accurate crossbow and would be great for target shooting.

Cocking the crossbow can be a bit difficult for young shooters. However, this crossbow would be suitable for a wide age range thanks to the simplicity of design and ease of firing.

Features and Benefits of the Excalibur Micro Suppressor Crossbow

Sound Deadening System

Crossbows are loud due to the amount of force that they provide in such a small space.  This doesn’t matter if you are simply shooting for fun.  However if you are using it for bow hunting you will want to ensure that your crossbow is as silent as possible.

The Excalibur Micro Suppressor’s advantage is through several built in features.  These include an over moulded rubberized stirrup and hold down spring, ex shox, string stars, and recoil anti vibration system or RAVS silencers all provide a much quieter shooting experience.

This system helps reduce vibration which makes for a much more comfortable shooting experience.

Guardian Anti Dry Fire System

One of the greatest dangers to a bow is to dry fire it.  This can crack the limbs and often void the warranty.

The Excalibur Micro solves this problem with their Guardian Anti Dry Fire System.  This system is located within the scope mount on the crossbow.

It keeps the string from fully releasing if fired while being activated.  This keeps you and your bow safe.

Tact Zone Illuminated Scope

A major advantage of using a crossbow is the ability to put a scope on it.  The Excalibur Micro comes with a Tact Zone Scope with 30 mm rings.  This will provide sufficient magnification for any hunting application.

The scope is very bright and clear which is essential for hunting in low light conditions when animals such as deer or black bear like to travel.

Built On The Micro 355 Platform

The Micro 355 platform is a tried and true system from the Excalibur line of crossbows.  The bow weighs in at a light 5.4 lbs thanks to its carbon design with an overall length of 31 inches.

Width wise, from the limb tips the crossbow measures in at 25 inches.

The arrow weight is minimal due to the 16.5 inch arrow length of the lightweight carbon quill bolts making it compact and easy to carry around.

Comfortable Bullpup Ready Rest Stock

The stock includes an ambidextrous cheek piece making it easy to shoot whether you are right or left handed.  The oversized finger guards and rubber grip inserts for the pistol grip create a comfortable feel.

When the crossbow is more comfortable to shoot, you will want to spend more time practicing which will make you a better shooter overall.

Three Sided Picatinny Rail

This bow also includes a three sided picatinny aluminum rail that will accept all picatinny style attachments.

Gen ii CRT Limb System

Thanks to the limb system in place on the Excalibur Micro, it is capable of firing an arrow, or bolt, at 343 feet per second while producing 280 lbs of force.

Detachable Quiver

The crossbow includes a x hanger quiver with bracket system for taking the quiver off quickly.  When you are hunting or target shooting, you will appreciate the ability to set this aside to minimize noise.

This will also allow you to shoot off a flat surface such as a bench for target practice.

Air Brakes For Shot Recoil

The limbs are supported with an air brake system that reduces the amount of felt recoil when shooting.  This translates to steadier shots and the ability to stay on target after a shot has been taken.  It also simply improves the comfort level of the shooting experience.

Excalibur Micro Suppressor Review From The Web

This is a very popular crossbow thanks to its design for versatility and optimal shooting setup.  This is not just my opinion, others share it as well.

bowhuntingmag.com had this to say about the Excalibur in a review they did for the crossbow:

Other reviews commented on how accurate the bow was to shoot and how comfortable it was. One user even gave it to his daughter who took three deer with it in one season thanks to its easy to use scope.

Excalibur Micro Suppressor Crossbow vs Barnett Whitetail Hunter II Crossbow

barnett whitetail hunter II

A major competitor to the Excalibur is the Barnett Whitetail Hunter II. The major difference in the two bows comes from the fact that the Barnett Whitetail Hunter has to be fired to be decocked.

This means you have to take a shooting block with you on hunts to unload the crossbow before taking it home.

Others did not enjoy the manual for the Barnett Whitetail Hunter claiming it was difficult to understand. It is also heavier than the Excalibur by around 1 pound.

One positive that it has is the high quality scope. Now you can put any crossbow scope you’d like on either of these, but out of the box the Barnett’s scope seems a bit better.

Side by side, these two crossbows are great for hunting and either would serve you well.

Conclusion

The Excalibur Micro Suppressor is a great compact crossbow for hunting or for target shooting.

The crossbow comes with everything you need to shoot it right out of the box. The only additional purchases you may want to make are broadheads if you are planning to hunt with it and a crossbow case to travel with it.

The unique dry fire system built into this bow adds safety features not commonly seen in bows at this price point.

The ambidextrous cheek piece makes this crossbow ideal for right or left handed shooters.

While the cocking device does eliminate a lot of the tension of pulling back the string, it will take some practice to get comfortable with it. Even still, this is an excellent crossbow at an affordable price.
