Closer Look at the Features and Specifications

The SAS Scorpii is made for right-handed archers. It is safe to say that a majority of archers use their right hand to shoot. This makes the Scorpii suitable for so many archers. As long as you shoot with your right hand, nothing can stop you from using this awesome bow. It has been designed to fit perfectly into your hand. The grip is made in such a way that you can hold it all day long without your hand cramping.

The Scorpii features a split limb design. This design is becoming very popular among bow manufacturer, with the well-known brands using it on their higher-end bows. Although, generally speaking, solid limb bows perform just as well as split limb bows, there are benefits that are attributed to the latter. For instance, bows with split limbs are believed to be lighter in weight. Moreover, split limbs are capable of shooting arrows at a higher speed and they are more powerful. These are some of the benefits that come with the Scorpii.

This bow features a dual cam system. Archers all over the world never seem to agree on the best cam system. Everyone heaps praise on the cam system that they prefer. It all comes down to what you are looking for. The Scorpii, being a dual system bow, offers better speed than competing single cam models. Besides, you will enjoy outstanding accuracy and nock travel. It may not be as silent as most single cam bows but the noise is nothing close to annoying and you can always sort that issue with a silencer.

The draw weight is adjustable 30 lbs to 55 lbs. It has been mentioned above that this bow can be used by almost all archers, but the experienced ones may find this draw weight limiting. Veteran shooters are known to shoot bows with a higher poundage. The draw weight range offered by the Scorpii will mostly be suitable for beginners and intermediate archers. There is so much you can do with this bow, including hunting. Unless you are planning to make a huge kill, this bow is powerful. You can take down medium game very easily.

The draw length is adjustable 19” to 29”. This range is very wide and makes the Scorpii suitable for use by archers of all ages and sizes. It makes one of the best family bows you can get. This is one of those bows that you can share with your kids. Your teenager will shoot with it just as well as you. This feature has made compound bows popular among archers because they do not have to buy bows for everyone in the family. Even better, awesome compound bows like the Scorpii are affordably priced so you can easily access them.

A bow press is not needed to make the adjustments. Although people love how adjustable compound bows can be, some of them are so complicated as far as adjusting them is concerned. Consequently, hunters prefer to look elsewhere. The makers of SAS Scorpii have come up with a way to make the adjustment process very simple. It is straightforward and beginners can make their own adjustments without much trouble.

The riser is made using magnesium-aluminum alloy. Many manufacturers are using aluminum to make their bows. Nevertheless, magnesium aluminum alloy is great too. The material is solid and durable. As long as you carry out the occasional maintenance routine required for every bow, you will be using your Scorpii for quite some time. It can stand years and years of hunting and target archery.

It has a let-off of 68%. Many bows in the market today come with a cam let-off of 70%+. Going by the standards, the let-off of the Scorpii is still good. At full draw, the system helps you bear 68% of the total weight. If you have the draw weight of your Scorpii compound bow set to 50 lbs, the system bears 34 lbs (68%) while you bear only 16 lbs. The let-off feature is a special part of compound bows and one of the reasons why they are loved. The higher the let-off, the less weight you will hold at full draw.

The axle-to-axle length is 28”. Compound bows with a long axle-to-axle length are longer while those with a short one are shorter. The Scorpii falls under the category of shorter compound bows. Whether or not the axle-to-axle length of a particular bow is perfect depends on your height. The length of the Scorpii tends to be suitable for archers of different heights. It is highly unlikely that you will find it too short (definitely, it cannot be too long). However, even if you do, know that shorter bows are faster and more forgiving.

The Scorpii shoots at a speed of 260 feet per second. You may be disappointed with this speed, especially if you have been seeing bows with a speed of 310+ FPS. Although these very fast bows are more powerful, accurate and cause a flatter arrow trajectory, you should know that they are not for everybody. Bows with a higher speed may not be suitable and comfortable for many shooters. The Scorpii, may not launch arrows at the highest speed but you can be sure that it is suitable for you, regardless of your skill level. Experts even say that unless you are a highly skilled archer, anything above 270+ FPS is a bad idea.

This compound bow weighs 3.3 lbs. A light bow is awesome because you can carry it around all day long. However, it should not be too light because a little weight gives it balance. The weight of the Scorpii is fantastic, not too heavy, not too light.

Why You Should Buy the SAS Scorpii Compound Bow

It is affordable—and not just to a specific group of people. Southland Archery Supply use cost-effective methods in making their archery products to help them offer you the best prices in the market. Their bows are some of the cheapest yet most durable ones around. Even in trying to be affordable, they prioritize quality. You may get other cheaper bows but none of them will be as good as the SAS Scorpii. This compound bow is proof that quality does not have to be expensive— at least not in all cases.

The Scorpii is very well made. As mentioned above, just because SAS bows are cheap does not mean they are cheaply put together. Ask anyone who has used the Scorpii and they will tell you how it exceeded their expectations as far as quality is concerned. The magnesium aluminum alloy used is sturdy and no amount of use and abuse will tear it apart. Given the quality and durability of this compound bow, it is a real investment.

It caters for a very wide range of draw lengths. Many compound bows have adjustable draw lengths but most of them have a smaller range. The Scorpii is adjustable 19” to 29”. If you have very young archers in your family, this is a versatile bow that they can easily use. If you have been putting off buying your kid a bow because they will outgrow it, get them this one. With this range of draw lengths, they will be using it even when they are as tall as you (or taller). They will definitely love growing with their bow.

The draw weight is adjustable 30 lbs to 55 lbs. Like the draw length, this is a wide range. It is favorable for beginners and teen archers. If you are new to archery and want a bow that you can shoot easily, get the Scorpii. You can start by shooting with 30 lbs, which is appropriate for anyone starting out. As you become better, you can adjust to make the bow more powerful. For the hunters, this is an awesome weapon to have. As long as you are not hunting grizzly bears, elephants or buffaloes the Scorpii should be your bow of choice. If you aim accurately, one shot is enough to kill a medium-sized animal.

The optional kit is cheap and contains the necessary accessories. Compound bow shooters use a lot of accessories. It may not be possible to buy them all at once. The accessory kit gives you just the necessary ones at a price you can afford. If you are pressed for cash, this is a good option. You can always save up and buy the rest later.

The Scorpii shoots arrows at great speed. You can get compound bows with all levels of speed—some of them crazy high. Fast bows tend to be more expensive, though. Many people will tell you that super fast bows are the best because high speed helps with the arrow’s trajectory. Besides, an arrow flying at high speed will ensure a deep wound and consequently, a humane kill. However, what most people do not know is that a very fast bow may not be the best. It will come with its own issues. Go for a very fast one if you are a world-class archer; otherwise, the Scorpii is just what you need.

The Downside of the SAS Scorpii Compound Bow

Left-handed archers have been left out. Unfortunately, as good as the Scorpii sounds (and is) you cannot use it if you are left-handed. It is only available for use by right-handed shooters. Left-handed archers deserve nice things too. It is not clear why Southland Archery Supply have decided that you cannot have this one. Anyway, it is still relatively new in the market. Hopefully, a left-handed version will be available soon.

Veteran shooters may not find this bow appropriate. There is a very good reason why this bow is advertised as an entry-level bow. Most of the features allow it to be used by experienced archers but others, not so much. Take the draw weight for instance. Someone who has been in the game for long will prefer a more challenging bow (with a maximum draw weight of about 70 lbs).

Other archers will find the draw length limiting. A shooter’s height determines his draw length. Most people will be very comfortable with the draw length of the Scorpii but others have a higher draw length. The manufacturers should have at least designed it to accommodate up to 30”. It is, however, not fair to complain. Southland Archery Supply have really tried with this one. Their products have never disappointed and that goes for the Scorpii bow too.

The let-off is not that great. A few years ago, a 68% let-off would have been outstanding.  But it is 2018, there are compound bows with a let-off of 80%. Even in this bow’s price range, you will find many bows with a let-off of 75%+. Nevertheless, this is not really a deal breaker— it may be disappointing, but it is not bad enough to be a deal breaker.

What Users Are Saying About the SAS Scorpii

You have heard all that the manufacturer and retail sites have to say. But, how about people who have actually used the bow? —those that are not trying to sell it to you.

From the reviews, many users bought the optional kit. The beginners, especially, appreciate this option because some of them had no idea what accessories to buy.

The quality of the bow is great. They say that it is a solid piece, they expect it to serve them for a long time. Most of them are honest and say that they did not expect it to be as good as it is. Despite its rather small size, the Scorpii is a very powerful bow, going by the reviews. It is whisper quiet even without a stabilizer.

Generally, customers have nothing but nice things to say about the Scorpii. There are few negative reviews from disappointed customers. They seem to have received faulty bows.
